Bethany

This village was the home of Jesus’ friends, Martha, Mary and Lazarus and is situated on the far side of the Mount of Olives. There is a modern church built over byzantine ruins commemorating the home of Martha and Mary. One can also visit Lazarus’ Tomb where steep steps lead down to the rock chamber and give a good idea of what a tomb of the time would have looked like.
