Sea of Galilee

Also referred to as Sea of Tiberias, Lake of Gennesaret, Lake Kinneret

Many of the stories in the gospel have this area as their geographical location, and it was from around the lake that Jesus chose his disciples. The sea is known by various names: Tiberias, Kinnereth (since its shape is like a Jewish harp) or Gennesareth, the region in which it sits. It is a large lake some 48m deep and since its location is surrounded by hills and valleys which act as funnels for the wind, the whole area is susceptible to sudden storms, again as we read in the bible

The sea lies 200m below sea level and is a freshwater sea fed by the tributaries of the river Jordan which themselves are fed by the snows of Mount Hermon in Lebanon (which one can view on a clear day). A trip over the lake is a wonderful experience, enhanced by asking the crew to turn off the engine for a few moments to experience the peace and beauty of this place.
