Education is a priority for the people of the Holy Land, children and young people are eager to learn and the provision of good quality education has always been a priority for the Church. As far as is possible schools try to integrate with the wider community and places are offered for all without distinction due to religious affiliation. Community cohesion is an essential element of education and therefore no child is turned away on purely religious or financial reasons. The church has its own university situated in Bethlehem where Moslem and Christian students are educated together. The average cost of educating a child in the school system is £300 per year and the annual fees at Bethlehem University are £3,000.
